Loving the space you live in whether it’s a house you own or a rental property is very important, I’m a firm believer in enjoying where you are now and today’s post is sharing 9 ways you can elevate your rental property.

 Living in a well thought out space helps to reflect your personality allows you to relax, unwind, be motivated and productive. Please check with your landlord/agency before making any changes as this might affect your deposit or length of stay.

1. Peel and Stick wallpaper - this is a great way to create a bold or subtle statement on the usual cream and white walls we often find in a rental property, wallpaper adds character and injects your personality into the space, Dunelm and Amazon have great example of these.

2. Lighting - this is an area that is often ignored but it is one of the easiest ways to change up the mood of the space, whether you add an easy fit pendant lampshade, or add task lighting such as table lamps and floor lamps, it dramatically changes a space.

3. Picture frames - this is something a lot of us do when we start decorating or personalising our spaces; I definitely recommend art, and personalised family pictures on the wall, in a rental property it’s wise to invest in command strips, as opposed to drilling holes they are adhesives that allow you to stick the pictures on the wall, you can also find these on Amazon.

4. Flooring - I personally do not recommend changing the flooring when in a rental property, rugs are an ideal way to enhance your space and help create a cosy environment without splurging on new flooring. You can also get peel and stick tiles if you would like to change existing tiles in a kitchen or bathroom to suit your needs and personality.

5. House plants - I cannot preach enough about plants and how they add life to a space, everything from small plants to oversized ones, adding greenery to your space is a must!

6. Paint - Painting is a great way to have colours that you love around you and help reflect your personality. In rental properties I personally recommend avoiding dark colours as it will be more work to paint over when moving out.

7. Upcycle your furniture - upcycling your furniture personalises it, e.g. adding new handles on a chest of drawers or painting it a different colour allows you to create a new piece of furniture without buying a new one.

8. Mirrors - a lot of rentals are not particularly spacious therefore mirrors are great as they reflect light, and give the illusion of space, you have the option of choosing different shapes & lengths.

9. Soft furnishings - lastly cushions and throws are an easy way to create a cosy vibe and you can change these to suit different seasons, high street shops and online places like Etsy have great selections, depending on your style and budget.
