How to Improve your Hallway - (7 Space Saving Solutions)

Have you ever wondered why hotels, offices and other establishments invest so much money into their welcome areas/lobbies?, they have understood that the first impression can be the last. With that said, our hallways are the first impression guests have of our homes, it’s an area that speaks volumes about who we are and sets the tone for the rest of the house.

Shoes, coats, keys, letters, all need to find their space in this high traffic often small area, hallways not only need to be functional but they need to reflect the feeling you want to feel when you walk in; this is why I am sharing my 7 space saving solutions to help improve your hallway.

  1. Mirrors - mirrors are great for hallways as they have a dual purpose, one is to give the illusion of space and the other to check your reflection right before you leave the door.

2. Console tables - As a high traffic area a shallow depth console table is great to store day to day things like keys or letters, if you can find some with drawers that’s even better. Another bonus of console tables is you can utilise the space below by adding baskets which is more storage for a small space.

3. Bench - when improving your hallway it’s important to tailor your designs to your lifestyle. A bench is great to sit down and put shoes on and off !

4. Hooks - If you are limited on space to have a coat rack, hooks are absolutely fantastic we have them in our hallway at home and they are really great space saving solution.

5. Lighting - It’s important to consider lighting in your hallway as well, whether it’s an automated system, or a simple table lamp, it makes such a difference in a space that does not get a lot of natural light.

6. Hidden Storage - hidden storage solutions help keep this high traffic area clutter free, making use of the space under the stairs or opting for wall mounted shoe storage keeps everything nice and tidy.

7. Plants - Lastly I absolutely love plants in any space and the hallway is no exception, whether they are fresh flowers, dried plants or oversized plants they add a visual interest and bring this small area to life.

When designing or improving your hallway try and think of how you want to feel when you get home, and recreate that. If you need help, stuck on ideas or how to pull it together KH Interiors is always here to help.
