SMALL SPACE STORAGE (IKEA Workshop takeaways)

I recently attended a workshop at my local IKEA store which was focused on” making your home work for you with small space storage solutions”. It’s easy to miss all the smart storage ideas that have been implemented in the room sets because there’s so much to see! I am always in search of inspiration on how to organise our spaces and in today’s post I will be sharing my 5 take aways from this workshop that hopefully can help you! (This post is not sponsored)

1.Modular shelving units - this is something that was discussed in great depth, modular shelving units are great for awkward spaces, you can adapt them to suit your lifestyle whether through adding doors, painting or simply adding handles, it also gives a new lease of life to the product whilst having a positive effect on the environment as there is less waste.

2.Be creative - we’ve all seen great Ikea hacks and the designers challenged us to rethink how we use our existing furniture, a dining stool can also be used as a bedside table, one of my favourites where handles in a kitchen cabinet used as wine glass holders, GENIUS !!

3.Vertical storage- specifically for small spaces vertical storage is a WIN, maximising every inch of your space to create more storage is a must, think stacking chairs or adding a shelf above the door for extra storage.

4. Labels - how many times have we put something away and never know where to find it, that’s why labels are fantastic, you never have to wonder where your belongings are again!, as easy as it sounds putting a label on it will make the organising process smoother.

5. Shared spaces - this  was also a big part of the workshop as a lot out of our storage needs are not just for ourselves they are for our family members & growing families. It’s important to consider everyone’s storage needs when finding storage solutions, e.g in a living room storage benches are great as they have multiple uses (bench, storage, table).
