AI vs Online Interior Design: Navigating the Pros & Cons
Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably noticed that AI is taking over everything! Recently, during a meeting, the effect of AI on online interior design was brought up, the argument was, people can simply upload a picture of their room, choose a style, and voila! A room transformation in just a few clicks. What value does online interior design bring?
Intrigued, I decided to try a couple of these AI-powered tools, and while they are undoubtedly convenient and help define your interior design style, they do have their limitations and today’s post will be sharing my thoughts on all of this.
What if You Don't Know Your Style? The convenience of AI room planners is second to none, however I found that AI tools already assume you already know your interior design style. But what if you're unsure or looking for something new? It can be challenging to find guidance and inspiration when the tools expect to know your style already.
Lack of Personalisation: Online interior design creates personalised spaces to suit different needs & preferences, e.g. the needs of a single person will be different to those of a family . Unfortunately, AI tools struggle to cater to these diverse needs, as it heavily focuses on aesthetics and ignores the function of that space. There’s no where to input what problems you are currently facing which would make your space work best for you.
It’s free : One major benefit of AI interior design tools is that they provide free inspiration for your space. And let's admit it, who doesn't love free stuff? You can gather ideas and get your creative juices flowing. But here's the catch: once you have that perfect image in hand, it doesn’t provide a shopping list for you to source the materials, furniture, and accessories shown.
Unrealistic Images: I must confess, some AI software I've tried completely changed the placement of windows and doors. While these dramatic transformations looked impressive, they might not be what you actually want. So, be cautious and don't get carried away by the overly idealised visuals.
Collaboration : Online interior design, gives you the opportunity to collaborate and communicate directly with a designer. Through virtual meetings and video calls, you can actively participate in the design process, share feedback, and make adjustments along the way, something that AI is not able to provide.
To round up my thoughts, I have found that AI room planners provide convenience and inspiration however they fall short in delivering the human touch and the ability to cater to individual needs and preferences. On the other hand online interior design offers the benefits of personalised guidance, expertise, collaboration, tailored solutions and ongoing support. Choosing online interior design allows you to create a space that reflects your unique personality and lifestyle.
